december marks a year since i re-ventured into this poetry thing, with that rather productive one-month dive into sonnetry. i've just signed off on my second collection - the question is, what next?
the trouble with having a couple of different (and equally exciting) ideas floating around at the same time is this sense of incompletion which provides me ample ammunition to procrastinate - similar to putting on two pairs of trousers at the same time, one on each leg - one reaches the point (usually somewhere around the crotch) where a decision has to be made as to which pair of pants is going on first. unfortunately both trousers have proceeded so far up the leg that it would necessitate stripping the other pair down in order to get the other leg over it, or resort to uncomfortable contortions to wear a full pair over a half-worn leg, always being reminded by an uncomfortable lopsided bulge of the presence of those half-worn trousers under. that was an example of why extended metaphor is bad. but basically what i want to say is that i have two ideas and they keep bugging me at the same time and i feel unable to act on one until i have completed acting on, or failing which, purge the other from my mind. one is about large amounts of water, and one is about... beauty. le sigh.
